Tarantula - Legal Search
The Research Spider was introduced to provide a means for searching, collecting, and organizing law related material on the internet. The available features provided for a number of options including searching by court, plaintiff, defendant, and the cause of action at issue in the underlying lawsuit. In addition to case law, statutes, and administrative rules and proceedings, the Research Spider collected information on original content related to the law including memos, case briefs, opinions, and outlines.
While active, many other websites were identified that collected similar content. The Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School hosts a vast collection of United States statutes, case law, and federal regulations. Resources provided on the site include United States Supreme Court opinions and a large collection of material on international law.
The New Zealand Ministry of Justice site is the official government website of the New Zealand judiciary. Included are links to the Supreme Court and official government publications. In addition, information on treaty settlements, payment of fines, and information on policy and consultation are provided.
Among the many sites featuring content aimed primarily at law students and practicing attorneys, Lawnix hosts an assortment of case briefs of legal opinions from the courts of the United States and Great Britain. A number of law school course outlines are also offered for download.
