You can use all the search features of the Verity Search Engine. Words entered seperated by spaces are considered to
be a phrase. You can use words and phrases separated by commas, to get any of the words. You can use and, or, and not between words as search operators. You can use wildcards to truncate words.
You can use the URL field to limit your search. You could use the URL to exclude or include specific types of documents. For example, using the term Bill of Rights will return hits featuring Bill of Rights as part of the text. Including the word "not" can exclude certain results from your legal search results set. It is also possible to
limit your searches using dates. In the Tarantula databases, the Date field is the date the document was last
modified. Eg: Maori and date > 1 January 2009. For more information on doing date searches, click
on "Search Tips" above.
You can also perform searches for case law using a number of free legal databases. To search for case law from a particular year or court, simply use the appropriate values as part of your search.
Other fields are present but not used consistently across the many web sites indexed. Unfortunately the current practice among web designers is to put generic words in the title rather than a description of the document. |
